A recent
survey by the Pacific Coast Business Times lists the top 50
publicly traded, and top 50 private companies in the
tri-counties of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. While
Camarillo ranks only 4th in population among the ten cities in
Ventura County, twelve Camarillo-based companies were among these
100 firms, including ten of the top 50 public companies. These
include Semtech Corp., Salem Communications, Vitesse Semiconductor,
Power-One, BioSource International, Interlink Electronics,
Electronic Clearing House (ECHO), First California Bank, Advanced
Photonix (API), and AML Communications. Additionally, among the top
private companies are Data Exchange Corp. and Hi-Temp Insulation.
Additionally, other prominent firms such as Rockwell Scientific and
Deckers Outdoor have a significant presence in Camarillo.

The new Camarillo Library carries on the literary legacy that dates
back to 1919 with the community's first library. Now, nearly a
century later, Camarillo reaffirms its commitment to the community
with a library that will Engage, Enlighten, and Excite.
With its opening in early 2007, the new Camarillo Library carries on
the literary tradition that dates back to 1919 with the community’s
first library. At 65,621 square feet, the new library will be more
than four times larger than the current 32-year-old facility.
Inside, residents will find books, DVD movies, music CDs, audio
books, reference books, periodicals and special collections. With
this new landmark, Camarillo reaffirms its commitment to the
community with an innovative resource center for today, and for
generations to come.
Camarillo and the surrounding area has a temperate and livable
climate.
Its location in a coastal valley brings mild ocean breezes and
temperatures in the 70's throughout most of the year. An average
rainfall of 13 inches occurs primarily from November to February.
The city has over 300 days of sunshine a year and an average
humidity of 62%.
Snow has only fallen about 3 times in the last thirty years and is
seldom more than a dusting. Snow is sometimes visible during the
winter months above the 4000-foot level in the mountains to the
north. The proximity of the ocean sometimes causes morning fog in
the spring and early summer.
Camarillo is primarily a made up of large housing tracts, with
elementary schools and small serving the nearby neighborhoods. The
primary public high schools serving Camarillo are:
Adolfo Camarillo High School in Mission Oaks
Rio Mesa High School, just over the Oxnard/Camarillo line.
A new high school near the intersection of Lewis Road and Las Posas
Road is planned.
The YMCA recently opened a new facility on Village at the Park
Drive.
The incidence of all types of crime committed in the city is far
below the national average.
Many sports leagues, including adult leagues, such as baseball,
basketball, football, and the largest AYSO soccer league west of the
Mississippi are located in Camarillo. An outdoor in-line hockey rink
was recently put into Freedom Park, near the Camarillo Airport.
